This scene was written and directed by a student film maker at Trident Technical College that Trinity met during her time there. After graduating she volunteered to edit the project to practice working through dialogue based scenes. It was created to explore themes in friendship and betrayal.
I find dialogue the most challenging to edit. When we have conversations everyday we don’t think about the back and forth game between us and whoever we are talking to. To consciously make those decisions on when each character is going to speak, and what/who we will see as the words are spoken is something you have to learn. Understanding each character’s emotions and personality traits and then using that to shape the conversation, but then needing to make it sound natural too. For this scene in particular, the lack of character outside of the scene and the unfamiliar subject matter made it increasingly more difficult for me. Creating this verbal conflict and doing it naturally is something that I am working hard to improve on.
